read moreKumar Shahani (b 1940) graduated in Political Science and History from the University of Bombay. He then studied Screenplay Writing and Advanced Direction at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, where he was a student of Ritwik Ghatak. He was awarded a French Government Scholarship to study at the Institut des hautes etudes cinematographiques (IDHEC), where he assisted Robert Bresson on 'Une Femme Douce'. Kumar returned to India to make his first feature film 'Maya Darpan' in 1972. Some of his other acclaimed films include, 'Tarang' (1984), 'Khayal Gatha' (1988), 'Kasba' (1990), 'Bhavantarana' (1991) and 'The Bamboo Flute' (2000).
